Formosa Plastics Transport Corporation (http://www.fpg.com.tw/html/com/fptc/fptc.htm) was established in 1964, invested by Formosa Plastics Corporation, Nan Ya Plastics Corporation and Formosa Chemicals and Fibre Corporation. In the initial investment, it was purchased 10 twelve-ton trucks to fulfill the enterprise product transportation demand. At present, the whole fleet scale already exceeds 1,500, which is the national 11th big transportation company.
In order to upgrade her Fleet Management System, VPON VP-5004 mobile DVR was installed on the oil tank truck fleets.
1st level of integration and 2nd level of integration was successfully applied. To provide real-time remote video surveillance through 3G/GPRS network among the trucks and control center. Each VP-5004 mobile DVR can connect to 4 cameras. The control center can see at real-time camera videos on the truck by a simple click. The e-Map on the monitoring screen can shows locations of the trucks. The function of camera feeds + location map, gives the managers much more information compare to traditional GPS tracking system which provides trucks location only.
Faced with an emergency or accident, the manager at the center can see what is happening on the truck and take proper actions immediately, and the driver have the recorded video to clarify the accident responsibilities.
VP-5004 was certified MIL-STD-810F-514.5C3 vibration resistance to work on tough pavements. In the case of a traffic accident, VP-5004 keeps working for a predefined period, even when the truck engine is turned off. This is a useful feature in vehicle surveillance.
SecuTrack central monitoring software, which is installed on the central control room, can work with multiple VP-5004 mobile DVR machines over 3G / GPRS communication network to track the locations of the trucks on the GPS map. The main screen shows the status of the DVR machines that are currently connected and the e-Map of trucks location with selected camera live views.
After installing our VP-5004 mobile DVR, the video acted as proof, to check which side had the responsibility in the accident. This resulted in dropping considerably (22% to 8.5%) the cases in which FPT (Formosa Plastic Transportation) had to assume the responsibility and pay for the damages in the accident. From 47 cases in half of this year, with the help of our Mobile DVR, FPT could prove in 43 cases that the accident was caused by the other side. FPT was able to save huge amount of money, which justifies the investment they made in adquiring our VP-5004 Mobile DVR.
FPT also informed us that they were able to control and correct the behaviour of their drivers. Since smoking is absolutely banned in Petrol Trucks, FPT was able to catch those driver that didn’t follow the rules.
To summarize, the vehicles are important and very valuable assests for any transportation company, protecting them with a mobile DVR is nowadays a NECESSITY, NOT A LUXURY anymore.
